Why Wear Swim Goggles?

Goggles are a crucial part of a swimmer’s gear. This pair of plastic glasses does not only protect the eyes from the elements when you go for a dive but also allow you to see clearly underwater and appreciate creation, especially when you’re snorkeling.

Kids, in particular, need to have protective eyewear when swimming whether or not they are swimming experts.

Why Wear Swim Goggles

Water can irritate the eyes. Beach water, in particular, can produce a sting not mainly because it’s salty but also because of other substances such as sand, microorganisms, or even pollution. Pool water, on the other hand, causes eye irritation primarily because of faulty chemical balance. And since it uses chlorine, it is harder on the eyes than water from the beach. This is especially true if you’re swimming laps or staying in the water for hours.

Why Wear Swim Goggles-

With the right pair of goggles, your little swimmers can enjoy clear vision underwater without having to worry about eye irritation or what is often referred to as red swimmer’s eyes. But how do you pick the right pair that’s perfect for your child?

Choosing The Best Swim Goggles For Kids

Picking a pair of goggles for your children can be hard, not because there is no option, but because there is a wide selection. It’s good to know that you can choose from a variety of brands and design, but it can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time to shop for a pair. The good news is that we went ahead and formulated some criteria that you can refer to when considering to get your kids their own swim goggles.

Before you go out there to shop, though, we want to remind you that the final decision is yours since goggles are an individual preference. Go ahead and check out our guide, but make sure you purchase what you feel is right for you and your children. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, here are major factors to consider when buying swim goggles for kids.

Choosing The Best Swim Goggles For Kids

Size. There are two types of goggles for kids regarding size - infant goggles and junior goggles. Infant goggles are suitable for children 2 to 6 years old, while junior goggles are designed for kids 6 to 14 years old. Whether you’re buying infant or junior goggles, see to it that it’s the right size for your child’s head.

Of course, you can always adjust the straps to make them fit, but there are goggles that even though they fit perfectly, have lenses that are not deep enough and hit the eyelashes. It’s important that your child is present to try the goggles when you’re shopping, so you’ll know whether they’re comfortable for him or not.

Here’s a short video showing how to fit goggles:

Keep in mind that there are differences between training goggles

Purpose. Keep in mind that there are differences between training goggles, racing goggles, and regular swim goggles. Racer goggles are designed for those who are into competitive swimming. Training goggles obviously are for training. Unless your child is into competitive swimming, he should be okay with a pair of regular goggles. But even if he’s not, you can always get him those, although they may be a bit more expensive than ordinary ones.

Not all swim goggles are the same

Features. Not all swim goggles are the same. Some models have lenses with UV protection while others don’t. Some even have anti-fog lenses. Some others have scratch-proof lenses. Consider these factors when shopping for swim goggles to make sure your kids get the best features. They may add to the cost of the goggles, but having these features will enhance the comfort of and safety of your child when in the waters.

Our Pick Of Swim Goggles

Our Pick Of Swim Goggles

We loved the goggles from both Frogglez and the Cressi. The Frogglez goggles, in particular, left us impressed because of its uniquely designed strap. It’s well-made and is a cinch to put on. It’s also very comfortable and does a good job securing the goggles in place. What we didn’t like about it, though, is that the lens quickly gets foggy. The good thing is that the strap can be paired with other goggles with better lens quality.

That said, we chose the Cressi Baloo Kids Swim Goggles as our number one pick. This pair is not as stylish as that of Frogglez, but regarding overall quality, ease of use, and performance, it seems to beat the rest of the choices on our list.

We primarily loved its mask design, which makes it very comfortable on the face. The strap comes with patented buckles with a micrometric system, too, allowing you to loosen and tighten the goggles effortlessly.

Most importantly, we were impressed by its ability to keep water out efficiently. But despite its watertight fit, it doesn’t feel uncomfortable at all. Here’s a quick video showing the Cressi Baloo goggles in action.

So, what did you think about our top pick? Do have any other brand and model of kids goggles in mind that were not included on our roster? Feel free to share them with us in the comments section below!
